Legal Requirement
Factories (Safety Training Courses) Order 2001 stipulates that any person who supervises any process or work carried out in a factory of oil and petrochemical industry shall have attended approved safety and health training course.
For Whom
Previously known as Oil and Petrochemical Industry Safety Course for Supervisors (OPISC). The OPISC is a mandatory training course for individuals who are contractors, managers and supervisors in the process industry
Entry Requirement
Employability Skills System (ESS) Workplace Literacy and Numeracy Level 5 and above, or equivalent
Course Overview
- Identify the Workplace Safety and Health Act, subsidiary legislation and industrial code of practice relevant to the oil/petrochemical industry
- Identify hazards and control measures at the oil/petrochemical workplace, including fire & explosion hazards, chemical hazards, mechanical & electrical hazards and confined space hazards
- Provide inputs for drawing up a risk assessment matrix
- Outline a safety and health management system to ensure a safe workplace at an oil/petrochemical site
- Conduct safety and health inspection
- Implement permit-to-work systems for a petrochemical site
- Monitor and control occupational health hazards of workers
- Conduct investigation and prepare an incident report
