Course Overview:
- 5S Implementation for WSH Excellence (5SIWEX) course equips participants with the practical knowledge and skills to systematically apply the 5S methodology (Sort, Set in Order, Shine, Standardize, and Sustain) to improve housekeeping and prevent hazards. Drawing upon internationally recognized best practices and the WSH Council’s 2016 Guidelines on Workplace Housekeeping, it emphasizes integrating 5S into safety culture to identify and mitigate slip, trip, and fall hazards, reduce clutter, and prevent incidents caused by unsafe work environments.
Course Content
- Topic 1: Introduction to 5S & WSH (Overview of 5S methodology; Link between 5S and WSH; Common workplace hazards – slip, trip, fall, clutter)
- Topic 2: 1S – Sort & 2S – Set in Order (Safety Perspective) (Identifying unnecessary items; Reducing clutter and tripping hazards; Organizing tools, PPE, and emergency equipment)
- Topic 3: 3S – Shine (Safety Perspective) (Cleaning & inspection routines; Identifying hazards during cleaning; Simple checklist development)
- Topic 4: 4S – Standardize & 5S – Sustain (SOPs for safety & housekeeping; Building safety culture & continuous improvement; Monitoring & sustaining 5S practices)
- Topic 5: Practical Application & Action Planning (Participants design a mini 5S action plan for their own workplace; Focus on hazard mitigation and housekeeping improvements)
- Topic 6: Monitoring & Measuring 5S in WSH (KPIs and safety metrics; Tools for audits and follow-up)
